Alberto Núñez Feijóo wants to play the European card strongly against Pedro Sánchez, and his last trip to Brussels, to the meeting of the European People’s Party (PPE) prior to the Council meeting, has led him to the conclusion that “a Europe has already begun to realize what is happening in Spain, and as a result, “in Europe they are beginning not to swallow the propaganda of the central government”.

The PP trusts Europe to stop the amnesty, even before it can appeal to Spain. Feijóo believes that the President of the Spanish Government has helped in the speech he gave them on Wednesday with his intervention in the European Parliament.

According to the opinion of the popular leader, Sánchez has managed to “make Europe worry, and a lot, about the institutional situation of Spain”, which “is being the subject of comments in the European Parliament and the Commission”. For Feijóo, the president of the central government made “a speech inappropriate for a head of government and current president of the Union”, because it was “more of a party meeting than what it should have been, an institutional speech” , he emphasized. In addition, he believes that with his words Sánchez “disrespected the deputies who treated him with respect, and tried to lure parties and politicians with a more respectable career than his own”.

By Feijóo, after Sánchez’s words about the judges, together with the processing of the amnesty law and the approval of commissions of inquiry – some of which “try to investigate magistrates of the Supreme Court” – added to the agreement with “the heirs of a terrorist band” for the motion at the Pamplona City Council, have caused alarms to go off in Europe. In his opinion, these are issues that “are being commented upon by the European Parliament and the Commission”.

According to Feijóo, Europe is starting to look differently at what the coalition Government is doing and the situation in which it puts the institutions. To the point that they are beginning to consider, he said, that “the Sánchez Government is against European values”.

The popular leader warns the president of the Spanish Executive that “the decriminalization of corruption does not come for free in the countries around us. Nor the attempts to control justice or go hand in hand with fugitives from justice”. In this sense, he also criticized “that the Government’s allies have links with Putin, receive the congratulations of a terrorist group like Hamas, or that members of the Government do not condemn the attacks by Hamas”.
