The general secretary of the PSPV and former president of the Generalitat, Ximo Puig, announced this Saturday the call for an extraordinary congress for the first quarter of 2024. The socialist leader has highlighted the need to start a new stage in Valencian socialism after the results of 28-M “with new leadership, teams and strategies.” Puig has made official his resignation from continuing to lead the party: “It is time to take a step back so that the project can move forward.”

The Valencian leader has indicated that “not a moment can be lost” to “invigorate a social democratic and Valencian project” and build a “political alternative” to the current government of the Generalitat.

Puig closed his emotional speech by saying thank you and pointing out that it has been “an enormous honor to represent the party and the country” of his life.

Previously, the still general secretary of the PSPV has asked the delegates summoned this Saturday in the National Committee to “flee from confrontation” because he understands that it is time for “responsibility, unity and serenity.” Puig will continue as the party’s top leader until the convocation of Congress.

The Secretary of Organization, Santos Cerdán, has also participated in a National Committee that has raised a lot of expectations, and has assured that the PSPV will have the support of the federal leadership in the renewal process that begins without interference: “We will respect what the militants of the PSPV you decide.”

Along these lines, after remembering that after the defeat of 1993 it took “20 ??years to return,” he called on those present for “dialogue, high-mindedness and a lot of unity to face the renewal process.” Thus, he has stressed that in the PSPV “there is no one left over” and everyone is “necessary” because they have the same objective, which is none other than “to win the elections in 2027.”
