The candidate of the PSC in the Catalan elections in May, Salvador Illa, landed yesterday in the Basque campaign to support the aspirant lehedakari of the PSE-EE, Eneko Andueza. The Catalan leader transferred his pre-campaign slogan in Catalonia, “unite and serve”, to the electoral contest that will be decided this Sunday, convinced that the role of the Basque Socialists, who have governed with the PNB until now, is an asset that it gives them “credibility” before this meeting with the ballot boxes.
In the meeting held in Eibar, Andueza’s hometown, Illa emphasized the credibility that socialism brings in terms of management, both to the Government of Spain, to the municipalities, and to Euskadi, where he valued “the stability ” which has been provided by the PSE-EE from the Executive of Iñigo Urkullu. And he assured that his pre-campaign slogan of “uniting and serving” society also serves the Basque Socialists. “It is what we do where we govern and what we want to do where we hope to govern”, he pointed out.
The leader of the PSC emphasized the diversity and plurality of Spanish society, but referred to the “minimum common denominator that unites us”, which is the fact of belonging to “a community” and having “a feeling of country and of community”.
As he does in Catalonia, the Catalan candidate also used the verb to serve as a way to “transform” public services “with stability, with useful politics and with agreements”, values ??that he identified with socialism.
Illa opted for efficiency in public administration to generate prosperity in Euskadi and Catalonia, a prosperity that he identified with improvements in areas such as territorial cohesion, education, health, housing and security.
Illa also spoke about security yesterday in Catalonia. The aspirant launched his proposals aimed at improving the “increase in the perception of insecurity” of citizens in an interview with RAC1. Three measures aimed at increasing police resources and strengthening the fight against the most pressing problems.
Illa assured that if he governs he will create “a general police station for women” to fight against the increase in sexual crimes and a special unit aimed at fighting mafias, multiple criminal recidivism and illegal occupations. He also pledged to increase the number of Mossos d’Esquadra personnel by around 570 officers a year “discounting retirement losses”, he pointed out, to reach 22,000 by 2030.
This promise was later criticized by the Minister of the Interior, Joan Ignasi Elena, who claimed on social networks that the current ERC Government “already hires 850 cops annually, 280 more than what the socialist candidate is now promising”. to replicate
Illa claimed citizen security as “a left-wing policy” in the face of extreme right-wing parties, who link this issue with migration concerns in Catalonia, and in the face of certain Junts approaches, in which some of its leaders have expressed their concern linking immigration with increased crime. But the PSC also wants to distance itself from the “bonist” policies that, in its opinion, the ERC Government, influenced by the CUP, has tried to implement.
