On December 27, a couple received a call from the Reus Urban Guard informing them that they had found the whereabouts of their car, an Opel Kadett, which they reported stolen on August 5, 1997 at the Bonavista premises, a neighborhood in the one they reside in, and about which they had not heard anything during these more than 26 years.
According to Tarragona Digital, the tourism has been found in the Riudecanyes reservoir, in Baix Camp. Emi and Manolo, the owners of the car, were incredulous and couldn’t believe what they were hearing. “I thought it was a joke,” the woman stated with humor, breathing with some relief upon knowing the end of the story. “It has been like closing a chapter, we finally know what they did with our car,” she concluded.
Apparently, this Opel had already experienced curious stories before its final end that began 26 years ago. As stated by the couple, this vehicle was their first purchase after getting married, ensuring the financial difficulty and effort that the outlay entailed.
At first, the Reus Urban Guard itself, in that call, told them to take the necessary steps to remove the vehicle if they did not want to be fined. Finding themselves in this situation, those from Bonavista had to prove that the car had been stolen in 1997, proving the corresponding complaint that they filed at the time with the National Police.
The couple appeared near the swamp that same day at night and the next day they inspected what was their car in the late nineties. In it they were able to recover the papers and documentation of the car and the jacket and some flip-flops of one of his sons. After taking the necessary steps, the threat of a fine disappeared and now it is pending for the authorities to remove the vehicle from the Riudecanyes reservoir.
Apparently, this was not the only time the same vehicle was stolen. Just over a year before filing the complaint for which they were alerted, they already had to claim their car for another theft, this time finding it later because the thieves had an accident.
