This morning there were spectacular frosts on Gavà beach, in Baix Llobregat, and in the crop fields near the sea. Raw winter cold, leaving a beautiful postcard, as we see in La Vanguardia’s Readers’ Photos.

Now, the farmers of the Baix Llobregat Agrarian Park look askance at these frosts so that they do not cause damage to the fields.

Frost is a meteorological phenomenon that consists of a drop in ambient temperature to levels below the freezing point of water and causes the water or vapor in the air to freeze, depositing it in the form of ice on surfaces.

In these flat lands of Baix Llobregat, orchard cultivation dominates. They are close to the sea, but conditioned by the salinity of the irrigation water.

Some of the most notable products are the Gavà asparagus or the artichoke, which occupies a good part of the farmland, especially in municipalities such as El Prat or Sant Boi de Llobregat.

Other plants that are used for their roots (radishes, carrots) or bulbs (onions, leeks) stand out in Gavà, favored by the sandy soils.

Chard, cauliflowers and beans are other species cultivated in the Delta area, in the lower basin and in the small irrigated plains on the slopes of the municipalities that are part of the Baix Llobregat Agrarian Park.
