In La Vanguardia Readers’ Photos we can see this snapshot captured on the climb to Turó de l’Home, the top of the Montseny massif, in one of the still shy January snowfalls of this winter.

The Turó de l’Home surpasses the peaks of Les Agudes and El Matagalls. The peak and the surrounding mountains act as a watershed between the Santa Fe stream and the source of the Tordera river.

The Montseny Natural Park is located in the Catalan pre-coastal Cordillera, between the counties of Osona, Vallès Oriental and La Selva. Its pronounced reliefs and its rich ecological variety stand out. For this reason, in 1978, Unesco declared it a biosphere reserve. In addition, it is the oldest natural park in Catalonia.

To reach the top of Montseny we can follow the route that leaves from the Font de Passavets parking lot, next to the Carretera de Sant Celoni to Viladrau (BV-5114), at Km 22.2, which separates Sant Marçal and Santa Fe.

This short trail, with several options for exploring it, follows one of the most traditional hiking itineraries in the Santa Fe Valley. For those who do not want to reach the top of Montseny, the walk to the Passavets fountain, located at 1,256 meters of altitude, you will also find it pleasant, short and easy.

For those who decide to continue as far as Turó de l’Home, they can visit the Font del Briançó and see the Avetosa de Passavets, of particular interest because it represents the southern limit of the distribution of this species in the Iberian Peninsula. And the natural spruce forest of Montseny is the southernmost in all of Europe.
