Cases of children who present urinary incontinence in an age range in which it is expected that this would not happen are known as enuresis. Especially during the day, which is known as daytime enuresis. The most common thing is that those over four years of age do not present difficulties when it comes to exercising control of their sphincters during daylight hours. If this does not happen and the child pees on himself, we must identify what type of problem this could be. Since two main causes are distinguished: physical or emotional disorders.

It is important to find the origin of this and take measures as soon as possible, in order to avoid some of the consequences that this may entail for the minor. Among some of them, low self-esteem and self-confidence problems. As well as being involved in arguments due to these incidents or even being mocked by classmates at school. All of this causes feelings of anguish, shame, guilt and anxiety in the child. So you have to act as soon as possible.

Among the causes that could be behind this behavior are those related to the physical condition of the minor. That is, it is a symptom of a disease or disorder that is causing it. One possibility would be a urinary tract infection, which would make it difficult for the child to control his or her urge to urinate and could even cause pain. However, it could also be a hormonal imbalance, which causes some children not to produce adequate amounts of antidiuretic hormone.

But it could also be diabetes in children, in fact, enuresis represents the first symptom and by which it can be detected. Other possibilities have to do with recurrent and long-lasting constipation, or problems in the urinary tract or even the nervous system.

On the other hand, it is worth highlighting the possible causes related to the emotional and mental health of the child. For example, cases of anxiety, which favor the development of enuresis. The same happens in situations in which the minor is under great pressure or tension, such as the process of separating from their parents or a period of mourning for a loved one.

Children peeing on themselves, despite being able to control their sphincters, could also be a way they use to get attention. This could be due to a whole series of reasons, such as a sign that the child is affected by psychological discomfort of some kind.
