The trial against Angela Dobrowolski for trying to murder her ex-husband, Josep Maria Mainat, will start on July 15. This is stated in the documentation to which La Vanguardia has had access. Section 20 of the Barcelona Court has planned for mid-July the start of one of the most high-profile processes in recent years, which will last for five sessions: from July 15 to 19.
Angela Dobrowolski, who after the case broke out has been involved in countless conflicts that even led her to spend half a year in prison, faces a sentence of 16 years in prison for the crime of attempted murder. The prosecution considers that she tried to end the life of her husband, from whom she was in separation proceedings, in the early hours of June 22 to 23, 2020 by injecting him with insulin to cause a hypoglycemic coma.
According to the indictment, the motive for the crime was economic. Dobrowolski was excluded from her will if the divorce process was completed and that is why she tried to kill him. “Since 10 years of marriage had not elapsed, according to what was established in the marriage agreements, the financial means available to Dobrowolski in the event of a divorce were greatly diminished,” indicates the prosecutor. Faced with this situation, her writing highlights, “she decided to end the life of her husband before he filed a legal suit for separation or divorce.” Therefore, a few months earlier she reviewed her husband’s personal email and she went to her account to examine the terms of the divorce proceedings.
The five security cameras in the home captured Dobrowolski entering her ex-husband’s room up to thirteen times to administer doses that in the trial must be determined if they were insulin (to lower his sugar level) or an anti-aging treatment. that Mainat took. The affected person went into hypoglycemia and then into a coma. One of the main tests will be the glucometer. During that early morning of constant comings and goings to his ex-husband’s bedroom, Dobrowolski measured her sugar level up to five times and was aware of the hypoglycemia that his ex-husband was suffering from. From the last measurement, which indicates worrying levels, until Dobrowolski called an ambulance, 20 minutes passed.
In March 2023, Dobrowolski was arrested for detonating an explosive device in a property in Sants where Gabriel, her romantic partner, lived. And in July, she was arrested for breaking into high-end apartments in Barcelona’s Turó Park, a case for which the judge sent her to prison.
