The owners of rental car licenses with drivers are trying to orchestrate a common front so that the Barcelona Metropolitan Area (AMB) returns the amount of the fee charged to be able to continue working in the conurbation of the Catalan capital while As La Vanguardia reported, a ruling by the Superior Court of Justice of Catalonia (TSJC) annuls this tax.
The rate in question was 500 euros, one of the highest rates in all of Spain. Sources from the Institut Metropolità del Taxi (Imet), the organization that was in charge of the procedure, indicate that they charged it 1,588 times, which represents an amount of 794,000 euros. The Imet understands that the TSJC resolution does not oblige it to return this amount.
Differences of interests abound in this sector. On the one hand, there are those known as traditional VTCs, those that use high-end vehicles, whether to attend a funeral or transport executives. And on the other hand, there are the fleets that provide their services with very few minutes’ notice through large transportation applications, such as Bolt, Uber or Cabify. It is the traditionalists who are trying to orchestrate a common front. And it was the fleets who brought this matter to the TSJC. In any case, both understand that the restrictions on their activity established by the Catalan institutions are exaggerated.
