Two people have lost their lives in the last few hours in separate traffic accidents on the Girona district road network. The victims are a 59-year-old French citizen who was aboard a van and a 66-year-old resident of Sant Feliu de Guíxols, who was driving a motorcycle.
The first of the accidents took place last night on the N-II highway, near Agullana (Alt Empordà). For reasons that are being investigated, a truck and van collided at kilometer point 771.5 of the N-II, near Agullana in the direction of Girona.
The driver and sole occupant of the van, a 59-year-old man of French nationality, died.
The other accident occurred this afternoon on the road that connects Castell d’Aro and Sant Pol, in Castell-Platja d’Aro (Baix Empordà). A passenger car and a motorcycle were involved in a head-on collision.
As a result of the accident, the motorcyclist, a 66-year-old man and resident of Sant Feliu de Guíxols, died. The accident forced the road, GIV-6621, to be cut in both directions of travel.
So far this year, a total of ten people have lost their lives in traffic accidents on the interurban road network in Catalonia, according to provisional data from the Catalan Traffic Service (SCT).
