With this photograph in La Vanguardia’s Readers’ Photos I want to graphically show the climate change of the pear tree, in this case, in Torrelles de Foix, in the Alt Penedès region.
As seen in the snapshot, pears are shown in January on a completely bare tree in an image that invites reflection.
Generally, the flowering of the pear tree occurs at the end of March or beginning of April, when the temperature reaches 10 ºC. But, these days of January we are already having days with temperatures that in some cases exceed 15 ºC.
Thus, if we look, for example, at the white pear (or water pear), its season runs between the months of June and December, while it is in August when it is at its optimal consumption time.
In light of this image of this Torrelles de Foix pear tree full of pears, it seems as if the tree is telling us that spring now begins in January.
