The Rigat river in Fornells de la Muntanya, town in the municipality of Toses, in Ripollès, is dry. At the time of capturing these images for Las Fotos de los Lectores de La Vanguardia, a neighbor told me that there has been no water for a year.

Now, in the Planoles section it does carry water due to underground currents. In any case, it seems that the river is speaking to us with this drought and shouts to us: “Humans, wake up!”

That a small mountain village in the Pyrenees like Fornells de la Muntanya has seen the river run out of water for so long is significant for climate change.

We are located on the left bank of the Rigart (or Rigard) valley, in the north of the Ripollès region. In Fornells de la Muntanya live about thirty people who have witnessed the loss of the river.

The Rigart rises in the Collada de Toses and descends to its mouth in the Freser River, in the town of Ribes de Freser. It is part of the Ter river basin.
