The plot of theft and sale of corpses that has been dismantled in Valencia had a precedent. The capital’s investigating court number 1 has had a case open since April 2022 for a crime of falsification in a private document and in an official document in relation to the procedures followed by the staff of the Montesinos funeral home in the collection of the body of a citizen. French, who died in December 2022, from a hospital and its subsequent delivery to a university for study. Four people were initially investigated in that case: two people responsible for the funeral home and two workers at the funeral home.
As reported by the Valencian TSJ, after carrying out investigative procedures to clarify the facts, including the statements of those investigated, in July 2023 the investigating magistrate issued an abbreviated procedure order against the two workers, understanding that there was sufficient evidence. against them for the preparation of inaccurate documents in order to achieve financial gain.
On the other hand, it agreed to the provisional dismissal of the proceedings for the two managers of the funeral home, as it did not detect sufficient criminal evidence regarding them. This order was appealed by the Prosecutor’s Office before the Court of Valencia, considering that the four investigated should be prosecuted, and a resolution is pending.
Months later, the National Police Corps carried out an additional report in order to continue investigations in relation to the case of another deceased and alleged irregularities in the cremations of more corpses. These police investigations involve the same four people, that is, against the two managers of the funeral home and the two workers, and will be substantiated in a second judicial case that in principle will also be followed in the Investigative Court 1 of Valencia.
This was announced this Tuesday by the Valencian Superior Court of Justice after the National Police dismantled a criminal network in Valencia that falsified documents to remove corpses from hospitals and residences, which were then sold to universities for study for 1,200 euros each body and that It involved the two managers of a funeral home and two employees.
