COPE presenter Carlos Herrera has officially announced his candidacy for the elections for president of the Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF). After months of rumors, the Andalusian journalist confirmed this Tuesday on the ‘Herrera en Cope’ program that he will try to occupy the position that Luis Rubiales left last September due to the controversy with Jenni Hermoso.

“I am formalizing my candidacy for the Spanish Football Federation. I have a good project for Spanish football, a lot of enthusiasm and people who accompany me in the project who are very solid. Then we will see,” he explained live.

“Indeed, my intention is to present myself. Now we have to see the specifications. If it says that those who are 1.87 and are from Almería cannot, then I can’t,” he added ironically.

The RFEF electoral calendar proposal establishes the start date of the process as March 15, April 26 as the election of the members of the Assembly and May 24 as the election of the president of the RFEF and the Delegate Commission.

Currently, the Federation is being provisionally directed by a Management Commission with Pedro Rocha at the head. Other candidacies have not yet been publicly confirmed, but the names of Rocha himself, the president of the Federation of the Valencian Community Salvador Gomar and the politician Eva Parera are being considered.
