On February 14, the Mossos d’Esquadra denounced the owner of a livestock farm in Riudellots de la Selva for serious deficiencies in the facility and irregularities. It turns out that the 50-year-old man had already been reported for the same reasons two years earlier.
As part of an action to prevent illegal acts against the environment, an agent from the URMA, the regional unit specialized in this type of crime in the Girona police region, inspected a pig farm to follow up on the irregularities detected in 2022.
Then, the Mossos detected a slurry leak at the facility, which two years later still had not been resolved. During their inspection, the agents observed how they continued to be discharged into the Rec de l’Agulla, a ditch that runs through the area.
They also detected that plastic drums, cans, containers and other waste continued to be burned in an uncontrolled manner on one of the farm’s grounds.
They also found that on the floor of the farm there were corpses of pigs and rats in an advanced state of decomposition. At the same time, they detected dead animals sharing space with those that were alive and other animals with serious physical problems that did not receive veterinary care.
Before these facts, the Mossos d’Esquadra reported administratively to the owner of the livestock farm. The minutes were referred to the Catalan Water Agency (ACA), the Waste Agency of Catalonia (ARC), the Department of Climate Action, Food and Rural Agenda and the Riudellots de la Selva City Council.
