Thousands of animals die every year after falling into structures created by humans, such as wells or swimming pools, as Fonde, a young rescuer, explains in this FotoDocs video about the problem of trap effects, such as ponds, cisterns and irrigation canals.
The animals come down to drink water or fall by accident and become trapped, since the walls are too high or too smooth and end up dying of starvation or drowning. Fonde checks these structures around the world and sees if any animals are trapped. He has rescued numerous animals, including cobras, vipers, wild cats, chamois, lizards, endangered amphibian species and even a salt marsh crocodile.
