The deceased in a traffic accident that occurred on the A-5 highway as it passed through Talavera la Real (Badajoz) this Thursday, as a result of a multiple collision of several vehicles, was a third-year student at the Toledo Infantry Academy who He was returning from maneuvers.
The mayor of Toledo, Carlos Velázquez, has conveyed, through social networks, his condolences to the sergeant’s family, friends and colleagues and has wished the speedy recovery of the driver, who has also been seriously injured.
The accident took place this Thursday afternoon on the A-5 as it passes through Talavera la Real, towards Madrid, due to the multiple collision of several vehicles, including two trucks, according to the 112 Emergency Center of Extremadura.
One of the trucks and an off-road car involved in the accident are soldiers who were returning from doing some maneuvers. Both the deceased and the seriously injured person were trapped and were freed by firefighters.
In his message, the mayor of Toledo noted that it is “a very sad day for our Infantry Academy and for the city.”
Sources from the Toledo City Council have told EFE that Velázquez has spoken with the colonel director of the Infantry Academy, Álvaro Díaz, to convey the city’s condolences.
At the Infantry Academy the flag flies at half-mast as a sign of mourning.
