The number of accidents that drivers have with their car varies depending on the color of the vehicle. This is determined by a study by CarVertical, a platform to consult the history of cars, carried out over the last 3 years.
According to the study, 18.4% of cars have had some type of accident. And, depending on their color, the figures dance. Thus, the champion is canary yellow, with 22.7% of vehicles involved in accidents.
In fact, yellow far surpasses the second classified, which is red, with 18.8%. Black, which is the most common color for vehicles in the United Kingdom (where the study was carried out), is exactly average, with 18.4% of accidents.
On the other side of the coin we find the colors that register fewer accidents. The safest, according to this data, is brown, which only accumulates 13.9% damage. They are followed by blue cars (15.6%) and gray cars (15.8%).
In statements reported by The Sun, expert Matas Buzelis points to the factors that explain these data: “Yellow and red cars are usually chosen by drivers who want to stand out from the crowd”, a fact that fits with a profile of people who, behind the wheel, “they may be taking bigger risks.
Along these lines, Buzelis adds another explanation to contextualize the results of the study: “These colors are also popular in sports cars, which can tempt drivers to go at higher speeds and risk having an accident.” Lastly, he also points out that white and gray vehicles have less damage because “it is easier to detect them at night.”
