Joan Ribó leaves the Valencia City Council. The leader of Compromís thus takes a step back after thirteen years as a councilor of the municipal corporation, eight of these as mayor (2015-2023). His decision will be made public next week. In addition, he has also left his position on the local party executive in the city. At 76 years of age, Ribó will continue as an active member of the Valencian coalition, but with this step he renounces any institutional representation.

Last November he decided to stop being the spokesperson for the Compromís municipal group in favor of Papi Robles. At that time he said that it was no longer up to him to be “the representative figure” of the coalition and that the reasonable thing to do was to take “little by little” steps towards a withdrawal.

In 2015 he became one of the so-called “mayors of change” in Spain after defeating the popular Rita Barberá, who had been mayor for 24 years, and in the last municipal elections he ran for mayor of the third largest city for the third time. of Spain, although the polls gave the command to María José Catalá (PP) with the support of Vox.

The co-spokesperson of Compromís has been in the world of politics for three decades -with some parentheses to return to his work as a secondary school teacher-, where he has been a member of the Communist Party, general coordinator of the United Left of the Valencian Country, deputy in the Valencian Parliament , councilor in the City Council of Valencia and mayor of the city.
