Today I would like to show in La Vanguardia Readers’ Photos some photographs that I took in the town of Cervià de Ter, in Gironès, whose complex is included in the Inventory of the Architectural Heritage of Catalonia.

This is a medieval town that, however, dates back to Roman times and currently has a population of less than a thousand inhabitants.

As tourist attractions, we could highlight its castle (located on the hill and whose first mention dates back to the year 1024), the Romanesque monastery of Santa Maria de Cervià (former Benedictine priory founded in 1053) and the Torre de les Hores (originally kept the portal of the wall), in addition to the Sant Genís church (cited already in the year 1053).

One of the sensations I had when walking through the town is that there is a lot of tranquility and silence, which, sometimes, is even excessive.

It should be noted that we can also find a nice laundry room, located a few meters from the Sant Genís church. There are painted houses, new or old construction, rehabilitated, in good condition and affected by the passage of time.

In short, and generalizing a bit, if we go through the center of the town we will have that feeling of having gone back years ago, since we will find many houses built with stone on the outside and with that village touch.

On the other hand, if we head towards the area where the Town Hall is located, in general, we will find a newer part, with the school, a pavilion or newer houses.

In addition, it is worth noting that this town has a notable agricultural area next to the Ter River. So if you like small, quiet towns with history, discover Cervià at your own pace.
