This Tuesday, a young man who was wanted for the death of the minor Santi Coca was arrested in the French town of Draguignan, near Cannes. As internal sources in the case have informed the EFE agency, the detainee will be extradited to Spain to be tried for the crime committed.
The young man, 24, was arrested under a European arrest warrant at noon, in the Var department located in the French region of Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur. The Algerian, the nickname by which he is known, is one of the six prosecuted for the death of Santi Coca, 17, who was brutally attacked in April 2019 outside a Santi nightclub.
Since February of last year, the Court of Gipuzkoa filed an arrest warrant against the accused when the latter failed to comply with his obligation to appear periodically before the court, while waiting for the trial to take place. Finally, it was held between November and December 2023, after already being postponed on one occasion due to the escape of the defendant.
The Spanish authorities have already been alerted of his arrest and, as sources in the case have explained to the EFE agency, the Algerian will be extradited to Spain in a process that is presumed to be “slow”, and then be imprisoned in our country at awaiting trial.
It will be a new hearing independent of the previous one, in which the other five defendants were tried, but it will also be held in the Gipuzkoa Court with a new jury tribunal. One of the accusations attributed to the young man in this case, by the San Sebastián City Council, is having given a “last and brutal kick to the head” to Santi Coca during the beating.
