Circuits de Catalunya has the green light to negotiate the lease of the Circuit Barcelona-Catalunya, located in Montmeló, with the Fira de Barcelona. This move authorized by the Government, the majority shareholder of the track, responds to the need to improve the management and efficiency of the venue so that its income does not depend exclusively on the major motorsport competitions, specifically Formula 1 and MotoGP.

The participation of other actors is part of the strategic plan of the circuit approved in October 2022, which includes an investment of 50 million euros until 2026. In this period the aim is to reinforce digitalization, turn the facility into a benchmark of sustainability and intensify territorial roots and diversification of activities.

It is in this last point where Fira de Barcelona, ??also manager of the Barcelona International Convention Center, would have the most weight, which according to the Government is “an economic and social engine”, as well as “one of the best platforms for business, the commercial promotion and the industrial fabric, the international projection of companies, the exchange of knowledge and the attraction of talent.

The objective is to create new business models related to fairs, conferences, healthy leisure and large cultural and musical events. The possible agreement with Fira de Barcelona will not affect the ownership of the assets of Circuits de Catalunya nor the ownership of the contracts with MotoGP and Formula 1.
