The board of directors of the Higher Sports Council (CSD) voted this Thursday against provisionally suspending Pedro Rocha and the managing committee of the Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) despite having opened a file for very serious misconduct. Despite this, it has agreed to create a Supervision, Normalization and Representation Commission to oversee the functioning of the Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) during the coming months.

After a long deliberation, with the arguments of the CSD legal services as a guide, the board of directors has ruled out the provisional suspension of the federation leadership. José Manuel Rodríguez Uribes, president of CSD) has urged the members of the managing committee to simply carry out ordinary administration of the entity. The CSD board of directors is scheduled to meet again on April 30 to analyze the general situation of the federation.

In parallel, Rodríguez Uribes announced to the board of directors the creation of a normalization committee in order to oversee the elections for the federative presidency for the 2024-2028 cycle that Pedro Rocha must call when he is proclaimed president. According to the electoral calendar, Rocha would become president this Friday, but Miguel Galán, president of Cenafe, has announced that he will appeal to the TAD against the decision of the electoral commission to validate the current assembly of the RFEF considering that it is not necessary to replace 42 assembly members who would have lost their status as such.

The CSD indicated in a statement that it adopted this decision “in response to the crisis of the federative entity and in defense of the general interest of Spain”, in order to “correct the serious situation that the RFEF is going through and so that the entity can begin a stage of regeneration under a climate of stability and institutionality.”

Independent people of recognized prestige will be at the head of this Supervision, Standardization and Representation Commission. The president of the CSD, José Manuel Rodríguez Uribes, indicated that the situation in the RFE requires “high-mindedness,” in response to which the Government acts with “seriousness, determination and responsibility.”

“With the creation of this Supervision, Normalization and Representation Commission, the CSD preserves the general interest, in order to restore the reputation, good name and image of Spanish football and complete the electoral process with a renewed Assembly for the period 2024-2028,” he added.

Uribes stressed that “the CSD will guarantee that Spanish football maintains its excellence at a sporting level and stands out for its exemplary character also at the institutional level” during the coming months, in which it will face “very important challenges” with the Euro Cup, the Olympic Games and the design of the 2030 World Cup candidacy. “It is what Spanish society demands and expects from all of us and from the sports federations,” he added.
