May will be a “normal” month in terms of precipitation and warm, especially during the next two weeks, as anticipated by the State Meteorological Agency (Aemet) on its X (formerly Twitter) account. Specifically, the agency assures that next week will be “significantly dry” and especially hot.

This announcement comes after April has become one of the six or seven driest in the historical series, despite the widespread and especially abundant rains in recent days in areas such as Catalonia and the Balearic Islands. According to records, until April 28, rainfall did not even reach half the normal value for this month.

At a thermal level, April has been a month with high temperatures as a whole despite the cold atmosphere of recent days. Specifically, on average it has been 1º above its normal value.

We will begin to notice the increase in temperatures this Friday. They will rise in almost the entire country, especially daytime. This rise will be somewhat less pronounced in the northwest of the peninsula and the Canary Islands. Up to a dozen provinces will exceed 20 degrees today. In Seville and Valencia, they will be around 25 maximum.

The receding frosts are expected to be weak in the main mountain systems of the northern half, and more intense in the Pyrenees, Aemet predicts.

The weather will tend to stabilize, although for this Friday a front is expected to penetrate the northwest of the peninsula, leaving skies covered with precipitation in Galicia. They will be weak and dispersed at first, tending to intensify in the afternoon, when it is expected that they can spread weakly to other regions of the northwest third of the peninsula.

According to the Aemet forecast, by the weekend temperatures will normalize and may even be warm in the east, with maximums that in the eastern third could be between 5 and 10 degrees above normal. Generally speaking, 20-25 will be exceeded in areas of the east and south of the territory.

Continuing with this trend, between Saturday and Sunday temperatures will exceed 30-32 degrees in points in the interior of the Valencian Community, the Region of Murcia and Andalusia. For next week, the agency predicts an especially hot and dry week.
