King Charles III announced last April that he was resuming his professional commitments after being sidelined due to treatment for unspecified cancer. The monarch was returning to work after being diagnosed with the disease after undergoing surgery for an enlarged prostate. Even so, the monarch had not neglected part of his duties and meetings, but since the specialists authorized his return to work, Charles III seems willing to make up for lost time.

However, the institutional agenda of the British Royal Family has been changed at the last minute, despite the fact that some of the appointments were already closed months in advance. Still, not even Kings Charles and Camilla; Nor will Prince William or other active members of the family perform the events at which their presence was expected in the coming weeks.

However, on this occasion, the reason for the cancellation of these events has nothing to do with the health status of any of the members of the British royal family. King Charles III is in the process of recovery, while Kate Middleton continues with her chemotherapy treatment to prevent her cancer, and will not resume her commitments until her doctors authorize it.

The reason is due to a political procedure, and that is that the elections in the United Kingdom will be held soon. The British Prime Minister, Rishi Sunak, last Wednesday called the general elections in the United Kingdom scheduled for next Thursday, July 4 and, therefore, the royal family’s agenda must be temporarily canceled.

As confirmed by Buckingham Palace in a statement, following Sunak’s statement, “the Royal Family, in accordance with normal procedure, will postpone commitments that may appear to divert attention or distract from the election campaign. Their Majesties send their most sincere apologies to those who may be affected by this.”

Among other commitments, Prince William had a departure scheduled for this Thursday, May 23, which has already been cancelled. For the moment, the kings will attend the celebration of the events of the 80th anniversary of the Normandy Landings, on June 5 and 6.

As confirmed by the British royal family website, the kings will attend the United Kingdom’s national commemorative event in Portsmouth accompanied by other members of the family, such as Princess Anne, sister of King Charles III, and Vice Admiral Sir Tim Laurence; who will join French representatives at a Royal British Legion commemoration service.
