One of the most anticipated weeks for music lovers begins, the week of the Eurovision Song Contest. The music festival will have a first date scheduled today, Tuesday, May 7, beginning the first semifinal in Malmö, Sweden.
In the semifinals of this 68th edition, 15 countries will perform their songs with one goal in mind, to reach the grand final. Sweden, the United Kingdom and Germany (three of the Big Five countries) will be in charge of voting in this first round.
Likewise, the members of the Big Five will be able to perform in the two semifinals. This group is made up of France, Italy, the United Kingdom, Germany and Spain, as well as Sweden, and they are the only countries with guaranteed passage.
This first semi-final of Eurovision 2024 will be broadcast from 9:00 p.m., and of the 15 participating countries, ten will make it to the final. These are Cyprus, Serbia, Lithuania, Ireland, Ukraine, Poland, Croatia, Iceland, Slovenia, Finland, Moldavia, Azerbaijan, Australia, Portugal and Luxembourg.
Both the Big 5 countries and the host country have nothing at stake on stage in this first semi-final, but they will be able to vote for their rivals in the grand final. This first semi-final will feature the votes of the inhabitants of Sweden, the United Kingdom and Germany, while Spain will be able to vote on Thursday, May 9 along with Italy and France.
On the other hand, the second semi-final of the festival will take place on Thursday, May 9, starting at 9:00 p.m. Of the 16 candidate countries that present themselves, only ten will reach the final. This semi-final will feature performances from Malta, Albania, Greece, Switzerland, Czech Republic, Austria, Denmark, Armenia, Latvia, San Marino (with the Spanish Megara), Georgia, Belgium, Estonia, Israel, Norway and the Netherlands.
The festival will come to an end this Saturday, May 11, the day on which the grand final of the 68th edition of Eurovision will be held. Nebulossa will be in charge of representing Spain in this edition with the song that won the Benidorm Fest: ZORRA.
