The Civil Guard has investigated a woman as the person responsible for an illegal nursing home that operated from a private chalet in the Vega Baja del Segura region, in the province of Alicante. The woman served as manager of this clandestine residence with the care of almost a dozen elderly German nationals.

According to the Civil Guard in a statement, this person, a 70-year-old woman of Swiss nationality, even went so far as to irregularly hire several untrained workers to care for the elderly. The agents are investigating her for the crimes of labor intrusion, fraud, misappropriation and against workers’ rights.

Furthermore, the same sources explain, he exercised total control over the bank accounts of the most vulnerable residents, even going so far as to defraud some of them of 9,500 euros and transferring the money to his personal account.

The Judicial Police Team of the Almoradí Civil Guard began operation ‘Geranio 24’ in order to investigate and clarify the irregular activity in this particular chalet.

The civil guards have carried out a search of the home together with inspectors from the Department of Social Services, Equality and Housing of the Generalitat Valenciana in which they have located nine elderly German residents and several workers illegally working as caregivers. The agents have seized a large amount of documentation for analysis and requested the judicial blocking of the bank accounts.

The Investigative Court No. 1 of Orihuela is in charge of conducting the investigation. Meanwhile, the Social Services inspection has proposed the opening of a disciplinary file, urging the closure of the business.
