A 16-year-old young man, Antón C.B. He died by drowning in the pool of a hotel in the Castellón town of Benicàssim late this Friday morning.
As sources from the Civil Guard have confirmed to the Efe agency, the minor, of Galician origin and who had traveled to Castellón to participate in the Spanish Cadet Volleyball Championship, has been found lifeless in the pool of the Trinimar hotel.
The Civil Guard agents have traveled to the scene after being alerted of the event by the emergency telephone number 112, where the first notice was given.
The same sources have added that the judicial protocol has already been activated to clarify the causes of death. The emergency services that attended the scene could not do anything to save the young man’s life.
The Spanish Volleyball Federation has sent a statement reporting the tragic event and expressing solidarity with family, colleagues and friends of the victim.
“The young athlete was participating in the championship with his club, Aldebarán San Sadurniño. This tragic event has saddened the Spanish volleyball family, which has lost a young and enthusiastic promise of this sport,” the organization notes.
