In Mataró there is a house with an elegant and simple appearance where, on October 17, 1867, the great architect Josep Puig i Cadafalch, one of the greats of Catalan modernism, was born.
I have captured this series of photographs for La Vanguardia’s Readers’ Photos. In one of the images we can see the commemorative plaque in detail.
The building, which is listed, is located on a plot with an area of ??169 m2, located at number 39 Carreró Street, in the historic center of the city. It is a main house between party walls with a ground floor and two upper floors, with a backyard.
The house occupies an urbanized area since the 15th century, although its current appearance probably dates from the mid-18th century.
The façade has stone jambs and lintels in the openings on the ground and first floors and a balcony with wrought iron grating and glazed tiles on the first floor. The final finish is resolved with ashlar stucco with geometric motifs.
The building preserves the original structure quite unaltered, with wooden beams, a central staircase and rooms on both sides, as well as the distribution of the interior spaces.
