During the next few days, Spain will suffer a series of relevant meteorological changes, according to the latest updates from the State Meteorological Agency (Aemet). During the day on Sunday, May 12, the stable weather that has prevailed in most of the territory will continue.

However, an Isolated Depression at High Levels (DANA) will affect the northwest of the country, especially the areas of the Cantabrian, Iberian and Pyrenean slopes with locally strong showers and storms.

On Monday, rainfall will intensify, affecting areas such as Galicia, the Cantabrian Sea, the upper Ebro, the Iberian system and the Pyrenees. Temperatures are expected to continue reaching values above 32 degrees in areas of the lower Guadalquivir and lower Júcar. In addition, the winds will blow with intervals of considerable force, highlighting the trade winds in the Canary Islands and the changes from southwest to northwest on the Galician coast.

Starting Tuesday, a drop in temperatures is expected in most parts of the country. In the Canary Islands, slightly cloudy skies will predominate with light rainfall in the north of the islands, while the south will remain mostly clear. The dominant winds will be from the west on the Atlantic and Cantabrian slopes and in the south of the Mediterranean area, with strong intervals in the Strait of Gibraltar and Alborán.

In this way, the week of May 13 to 19 will bring an active Atlantic circulation, which will facilitate the passage of fronts that will mainly affect the northern third of the peninsula. This will cause an increase in cloudiness and probable precipitation in that area, with occasional storms in the afternoons. The rest of the country will enjoy slightly cloudy or partly cloudy skies.

Finally, the quarterly forecasts indicate that the period from May to July could present a drier than usual rainfall regime in the west of the peninsula and warmer temperatures throughout the country.
