With each passing year, global warming gets worse. According to the Copernicus Climate Change Service, planet Earth has had monthly heat records for 11 consecutive months. In April the increase was 0.14º compared to the same warmest month, which occurred in 2016.
Summer is approaching, and last year was much hotter than normal, with constant heat waves. But in the next summer period the trend will continue to rise. As published by the Twitter account of the State Meteorological Agency, the summer of 2024 has between a 70 and 100% chance of being warmer than normal.
The AEMET has cited the Copernicus forecast with an image in which it is observed that practically the entire country is experiencing a very high percentage of unusual temperature rise during next summer. The only area where it is somewhat lower is in the Basque Country, where it is reduced to between 60 and 70%.
In the corresponding thread, the State Meteorological Agency comments that the summer of 2024 has a good chance of being among the 20% of the warmest recorded, “something that has also happened in the last two summers of 2022 and 2023.”
Regarding rainfall, the forecast made by the Copernicus Climate Change Service is that rainfall will be even lower than normal in the summer, with between 40 and 50% less.
