A semi-truck driver from Orlando, Florida, is facing serious charges after being involved in a fatal pedestrian accident on Interstate 44 in Sullivan, Missouri. Etem Missark, 60, has been charged with leaving the scene of an accident resulting in death by the Franklin County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office.
The tragic incident took place on Monday afternoon around 1:30 p.m. in the eastbound lanes of I-44 near the 225-mile marker. It was revealed through court documents that Missark allegedly struck a pedestrian who was trying to fix a tire on the side of the highway, along with the pedestrian’s vehicle. The documents also state that Missark failed to stay in his lane and drifted off the road.
Shockingly, Missark did not report the accident and fled the scene, even leaving the state afterwards. However, thanks to the diligent work of investigators, he was identified as the driver of the semi-truck involved in the crash.
Missark was apprehended by the Missouri State Highway Patrol on Tuesday and now faces a Class D felony charge in Missouri. This means that he could potentially be sentenced to up to seven years in prison and fined up to $500 if found guilty.
This unfortunate incident serves as a stark reminder of the importance of following traffic laws and regulations, especially when operating large vehicles such as semi-trucks. The consequences of reckless driving can be devastating and have far-reaching impacts on the lives of those involved.
It is crucial for all drivers to remain vigilant, stay focused on the road, and prioritize safety at all times to prevent accidents and tragedies like this one from occurring. Let us hope that justice is served in this case and that steps are taken to prevent similar incidents in the future.
