A sexually violent predator named Merle Wakefield was released from Coalinga State Hospital on Tuesday, according to authorities. Wakefield has a disturbing history of violent crimes, including rape by force and lewd acts with a child. Despite serving time in state prison for his offenses, he was eventually committed to a state mental hospital for sex offenders.

Following a conditional release granted by a county judge last month, Wakefield will now be under 24-hour supervision provided by Liberty Health Care, a private company contracted by the State of California. He will be living in a rural area in East County, where he will be closely monitored.

The San Diego County Sheriff’s Department has taken steps to inform the community about Wakefield’s presence through “Megan’s Law,” which aims to notify the public about sex offenders in their area. The intention behind this notification is not to instill fear, but rather to empower the community with information to ensure their safety and that of their children. It is important to note that any misuse of this information to threaten, intimidate, or harass Wakefield or any other individual will not be tolerated and may lead to legal consequences.

As a registered sex offender, Wakefield is required to adhere to a lifetime registration mandate to keep track of his whereabouts and activities. In a similar vein, another sexually violent predator named Alvin Quarles, also known as the “bolder than most rapist,” has been approved for a transient release by the court. A second hearing scheduled for December 19 will delve deeper into discussions regarding Quarles’ living arrangements moving forward.

The release of sexually violent predators into the community understandably raises concerns and questions about public safety. While the authorities have put measures in place to supervise these individuals closely, it is crucial for residents to remain vigilant and aware of their surroundings. By staying informed and taking necessary precautions, the community can work together to create a safer environment for everyone. If you have any concerns or spot any suspicious behavior, do not hesitate to reach out to the appropriate authorities for assistance.
