Sascha Deng and Wesley Park, along with their band Sunshy, have recently released their debut album, “I Don’t Care What Comes Next.” The album showcases their unique blend of shoegaze music, featuring intimate vocal duets, shimmering guitar melodies, and dynamic drumming. Sunshy’s sound is characterized by explosive riffs that capture the essence of the shoegaze genre.

Deng and Park, both graduates of Northwestern University, first met at the university’s radio station, WNUR. Bonding over their shared love for noisy guitar music, they decided to collaborate on creating music together. After graduation, Park moved to Chicago and began booking gigs for the band, eventually recruiting Gwen Giedeman on bass and John Golden on drums.

Drawing inspiration from local shoegaze group Precocious Neophyte, Sunshy incorporated new elements into their music, including synth and sampler sounds. This addition has enhanced their live performances, filling out their sound and creating a more immersive experience for their audience.

In addition to their musical endeavors, Sunshy also recorded their debut album at Deng and Park’s home studio, showcasing their DIY approach to music production. The band’s upcoming show at Cole’s promises to be an exciting event, featuring a lineup of talented musicians and a dynamic performance that captures the essence of their music.

In other news, the Chicago Journeymen Plumbers Union Hall is set to host the final CHIRP Record Fair & Other Delights event. This annual fair has been a staple in the local music scene, bringing together vendors and musicians for a day of music and vinyl collecting. While the event is coming to an end after 20 successful years, CHIRP Radio founder Shawn Campbell assures fans that the station will continue to host record-related events in the future.

As the music scene in Chicago continues to evolve, Sunshy stands out as a rising star in the shoegaze genre. With their debut album garnering attention and their live performances captivating audiences, the band is poised for success in the local music scene and beyond. Be sure to catch Sunshy at their upcoming show and experience their mesmerizing sound firsthand.
