A full rail closure will impact commuters on Saturday to accommodate work between the Oceanside Transit Station and the Santa Fe Depot Station in downtown San Diego, SANDAG announced Thursday. This closure will affect rail services operating on the San Diego segment of the Los Angeles-San Diego-San Luis Obispo coastal rail corridor, including North County Transit District, Amtrak, and BNSF trains.
The construction work is being conducted along the Del Mar bluffs and includes pre-construction activities for the Batiquitos Lagoon double track project, according to SANDAG. The project aims to replace a 1940s wooden trestle bridge with a concrete double-track bridge to improve tidal flow underneath. Additionally, it will allow northbound and southbound trains to pass at the same time.
As part of the bluffs stabilization work, crews will be installing steel beams between 9th and 13th streets and pouring concrete south of 4th Street in Del Mar. The construction work is scheduled to take place from Saturday through 4:30 a.m. Monday. Residents in the area can expect loud equipment noise and work lights during this time.
Commuters should also be prepared for increased traffic between the North Torrey Pines State Beach parking lot, Camino Del Mar, and Coast Boulevard north of 15th Street.
