Former Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot recently made shocking revelations about the alleged misuse of funds by Dolton, Illinois Mayor Tiffany Henyard. According to Lightfoot, an investigation found that the village’s general fund balance went from $5.61 million in April 2022 to a deficit of $3.65 million by May 2024. This deficit position was confirmed as of May 30 of this year, causing concern among residents.
During a public meeting, Lightfoot disclosed that Mayor Henyard had been using the village credit card for personal purchases at various retailers like Amazon, Target, Walgreens, and Wayfair. The most alarming revelation was a $33,000 purchase made on Amazon on January 5, 2023, using taxpayer dollars.
In addition to the mayor’s spending habits, the investigation also uncovered gross misuse of taxpayer funds by police officers. Two officers were found to have received overtime pay exceeding their annual salaries, with one officer receiving $114,800 in overtime pay despite having a salary of $87,295 for fiscal year 2024.
These findings have deeply troubled residents of Dolton, a city with a population of just over 20,000. Many residents expressed their dismay at the misuse of tax money, especially when there are senior citizens in need within the community. Calls for accountability and justice have been growing, with some residents demanding that Mayor Henyard be held responsible for her actions.
Mayor Henyard, who has been under intense scrutiny and labeled the “worst mayor in America” by critics, is also facing federal investigations. Allegations of financial impropriety, along with other controversies like a reported sexual assault incident during a Las Vegas trip and scrutiny of her cancer charity, have put her leadership under a cloud of suspicion.
As the FBI continues its investigations, residents of Dolton are left wondering about the future of their city and the accountability of their elected officials. The scandal involving Mayor Henyard has raised serious questions about transparency, ethical conduct, and the responsible use of taxpayer funds in local government.
In response to these developments, concerned citizens are calling for greater oversight, accountability measures, and transparency from their elected officials. The need for a more ethical and responsible approach to governance has become increasingly apparent, as residents seek reassurance that their tax dollars are being used wisely and for the benefit of the community.
