FIU football is making headlines with a significant announcement. The university revealed that Pitbull, the popular music artist, has purchased the naming rights to the football field, now known as Pitbull Stadium. This partnership involves Pitbull paying $1.2 million per year for five years to have the stadium named after him, as reported by ESPN.

In addition to the naming rights, Pitbull will be creating a special anthem for the school, promoting FIU on social media 12 times a year, and making an appearance at an athletics fundraising event annually. The agreement also includes Pitbull having access to the stadium for 10 days each year and his vodka brand being the preferred choice at the venue. Furthermore, he will have two reserved suites for all home football games.

The stadium, with a seating capacity of 20,000, has gone through various name changes over the years. It was previously known as FIU Community Stadium, Ocean Bank Field at FIU Stadium, and Ricardo Silva Stadium. Now, with Pitbull Stadium, the university aims to bring a fresh and exciting energy to its football program.

There is an option for Pitbull to extend the agreement for an additional five years, showing a long-term commitment to the university. The Panthers, under head coach Mike MacIntyre, are hoping to turn their recent losing streak around and secure a winning season in the near future.

FIU has been part of the FBS since 2004 and will kick off the upcoming season at Pitbull Stadium against Central Michigan. This new partnership with Pitbull brings a mix of music and sports, creating a unique and memorable experience for fans and students alike.
