CLEVELAND, Ohio — If the latest teaser is any indication, “Cars 3” is going to look a lot different than its two predecessors.
In an extended look that aired during the Daytona 500 on Sunday, we see the next generation of blazing-fast race cars, including the new hot shot Jackson Storm (Armie Hammer).
Everything about the film looks sleeker, from the animation to the sheen on the racers. The tone, also, is said to be more serious than the previous films as Lightning McQueen fights his way back to the Piston Cup Racing circuit after a horrible crash.
While the “Cars” series hasn’t been as critically well-received as some of Pixar’s other films, the previous two films grossed more than $435 million combined in North America. The new-look of the third film gives the franchise an opportunity to not only right itself creatively but also to perhaps attract new, perhaps slightly older, fans.
“Cars 3” drives into theaters on June 16.
