Nordea now confirms that the bank has been met with a demand of 900 million kronor from the tax administration.
It is in connection with a case of improper tax refunds on the dividends to the canadian pension provider HOOPP:
‘We can confirm that the tax administration has notified Nordea that the committee will summon Nordea demanding payment of approx. 900 million in connection with the so-called HOOPP-case.
‘We take this matter very seriously, and it is our assessment that we have complied with our obligations and have a responsibility in the matter.’
‘The applications for reimbursement in respect of withholding tax, as the case is about, was not sent via bankordningen, but blanketordningen with the usual tax forms,’ says Anders Holkmann Olsen, general counsel for Nordea, Denmark, in the message.
Furthermore, it sounds that the bank will cooperate with the authorities:
‘In Nordea we will not contribute to tax evasion. We have ongoing cooperation with authorities and provided information about the matter available, and we continue, of course, the dialogue with the authorities.’
