The connection between Catalunya and France will be one of the major banks technology testing 5G in the field of mobility of Europe . The European Commission announced yesterday the approval of the project 5GMed Corridor, also known as the runner 5G Mediterranean . It is one of the three projects inland chosen by the agency, which will fund 12 of the 16 million euros of the initiative. “It will allow Catalonia to lead the digitization,” said the minister of Politiques Digitals i Administració Pública, Generalitat de Catalunya, Jordi Puigneró . “5G is not the future, it is a reality that changes everything,” he added.

The runner 5G of the Mediterranean testará advanced services mobility connected and automated highway and railway line between Figueres and Perpignan. It will be launched during the next month of September and will run until November 2023. It is promoted by a consortium coordinated by Cellnex Telecom and is made up of 21 organisations, companies and technological centres from six different countries. The different partners will be in charge of the investment not covered by the european funds. The project testará four cases of practical use, such as driving remote in case of emergency

The infrastructure that will be created will allow to test the four cases of concrete use: driving automated distance, the advanced management of traffic, the continuity of business services in the railway for the change in cross-border and, finally, the infotainment with augmented reality for autonomous cars and railways. “It will allow us to control trains or cars at a distance in exceptional situations of emergency, such as when there are obstacles found in the path”, it exemplified the commercial director and innovation Cellnex, Oscar Pallarols. “It will create an ecosystem for businesses to create jobs related to the 5G”, glimmer Puigneró.
