Allen Weisselberg (the company’s chief financial officers) and Trump Organization are being charged with non-monetary benefits. These could include use of apartments, cars, and school tuition.

They were not allowed to discuss the ongoing investigation, and they did so under condition of anonymity. The Wall Street Journal reported that charges were likely to be filed Thursday.

The first criminal cases arising from the two-year investigation led by Manhattan District attorney Cyrus Vance Jr. (a Democrat ) would be the charges against Weisselberg, and the Trump Organization.

The prosecution has been looking at Trump’s tax records and subpoenaing his documents. They also interviewed witnesses including insiders and executives of Trump companies.

A grand jury was recently appointed to weigh evidence. Letitia James, New York Attorney General, stated that she had assigned two of her attorneys to Vance to assist with the criminal investigation while she continued a civil investigation into Trump.

A spokesperson for Trump Organization and lawyers were contacted to provide comment. Mary Mulligan, Weisselberg’s attorney, declined to comment. The Manhattan district attorney’s office declined comment.

Although Trump’s spokesperson didn’t immediately respond to a request for comment, Jason Miller a former senior adviser to Republican spun the looming accusations as “politically horrible for the Democrats.”

They told their crazies, and their supplicants in mainstream media that this was about Donald Trump. Their Witch Hunt is instead persecuting an innocent 80-year-old man for possibly taking free parking!” Miller tweeted, apparently referring To Weisselberg, who’s 73.

Trump was visiting Texas to visit the U.S.-Mexico frontier on Wednesday. He has previously criticized President Joe Biden’s immigration policies. As he was participating in a briefing session with state officials, he did not answer shouted questions regarding the charges.

Trump had made a statement criticizing the investigation Monday. He called Vance’s office “rude and nasty” and said that Vance was biased in how they treated Trump company lawyers, representatives and long-term employees.

In his statement, Trump stated that the company’s actions were “standard practice in the U.S. Business community and in no way constitute a crime”, and that Vance was conducting an investigation “in search for a crime.”

Last week , Trump Organization lawyers met virtually with Manhattan prosecutors to try and dissuade them of charging the company. The lawyers were given a Monday deadline by the prosecutors to present their case against the company.

Ron Fischetti, a lawyer representing the Trump Organization, stated to the AP that there was no evidence Trump was included in the initial batch of charges.

Fischetti stated that there is no indictment against the former president this week. “I cannot say that he is out of the woods completely yet.”

Weisselberg was a loyal lieutenant of Trump and his father Fred,, came under scrutiny partly because questions were raised about Fred’s son’s use, at minimal or no cost, of a Trump apartment.

Barry Weisselberg was the manager of , a Trump-operated ice rink located in Central Park.

Jen Weisselberg , Barry’s ex-wife , has cooperated with the investigation . She turned over tax records and other documents for investigators.

Duncan Levin, Jen Weisselberg’s lawyer, stated Wednesday that they have been working for several months with prosecutors as part of the tax and financial investigation. He said that they have provided substantial evidence that allowed them bring these charges. “We are pleased to learn that the DA’s Office is moving forward with a Criminal Case.”

Since 1973, Allen Weisselberg worked for Trump Organization. Prosecutors could use the case against him to force the executive to cooperate and tell them everything he knows about Trump’s business dealings.

Prosecutors summoned another long-standing Trump finance executive, senior vice President and controller Jeffrey McConney, to testify before the grand jury in spring. New York law grants grand jury witnesses immunity. They cannot be charged with conduct that they testify to.

Prosecutors are also looking into Matthew Calamaria former Trump guard turned chief operating officer and his son, who is the corporate director of security. A lawyer representing the Calamaris stated Wednesday that he did not expect them to face charges.

Nicholas Gravante, a lawyer, stated that although the DA’s investigation is still ongoing, he does not anticipate any charges being filed against his clients.
