The Commerce City Police Department recovered drugs which were positive for Fentanyl. They were found at a residence where five people died from fatal overdoses Sunday afternoon.

Two men and three women were among the victims. Their ages ranged from 24 to 32. According to police, a 4-month-old baby was found at this home. He was doing well on Monday.

Clint Nichols, Commerce City Police Chief, stated that the baby’s mother was among those who died. KUSA reports.

A 29-year old woman was also found at the house and taken to a local hospital.

According to 17th Judicial District Attorney Brian Mason, officials believe the deceased wanted to use cocaine and overdose on fentanyl.

Mason stated, “No drug is currently safe.”

Monday’s Commerce City Police Department statement stated that their detective would “vigorously pursue criminal charges” against dealers who provided the drugs.

The department stated that “the use of fentanyl, whether intentionally or not, and the subsequent overdose deaths associated therewith has reached epic proportions” in Colorado.
Fentanyl, a synthetic opioid, is 50 times stronger than heroin. It is often laced with heroin or cocaine and other drugs.

Families Against Fentanyl did an analysis and found that nearly 79,000 Americans aged 18 to 45 died from fentanyl overdoses between 2020 and 2021. This makes it the leading cause for death in this age group.
