WASHINGTON — A subpoena was issued Thursday by the congressional committee investigating Jan. 6’s riot to Kimberly Guilfoyle the fiancee to Donald Trump Jr. for information regarding last year’s attack at the U.S Capitol.
“Ms. Guilfoyle met Donald Trump at the White House and spoke at the rally. She also appears to have played a major role in organizing and raising funds for the event. In a statement, Rep. Bennie Thompson (D-Miss.), said that the Select Committee was seeking information about her on these and other issues. “We expect her cooperation and compliance with the law.”
Guilfoyle, one of the most close associates of Trump’s family, will be subpoenaed. Ivanka Trump is the oldest daughter of former President Donald Trump. She is currently in discussions with the Jan.6 committee to participate in an Interview but has not been subpoenaed.
Thompson wrote Guilfoyle Thursday, saying that Trump had met with him, his family members, and others at the Oval Office on January 6, 2021. This was also the time he last spoke to Vice President Pence (by telephone) before the joint session Congress to verify the Presidential election results.
He stated that the panel had also information that Guilfoyle had “communicated” with others regarding the President Trump’s decision about who could speak at the rally. This included concerns about Guilfoyle sharing the stage with people such as Ali Alexander and Alex Jones.
Guilfoyle addressed the rally at the Ellipse on Jan. 6th and praised the crowd for being “patriots who won’t let them steal our elections!”
Thompson claimed that she was captured backstage telling people to have the courage to do right. Fight!”
Guilfoyle made a voluntary appearancebefore committee members late last month. However, the interviewquickly fell off the rails . On February 25, Guilfoyle tweeted a statement by Joseph Tacopina, her lawyer. He stated that the agreement required only staff lawyers to be present for the interview.
In a letter to Guilfoyle, Thompson refuted that description. “Staff had actually communicated to your lawyers that Members could attend, but offered to reschedule this interview. He wrote that you declined.
Thompson stated Thursday that Guilfoyle “had backed out of her original promise to give a voluntary interview”, and that today’s subpoena would force her to testify.
Guilfoyle representatives did not respond immediately to a request for comment.
Thompson stated Wednesday to reporters that the panel hopes to complete depositions by April 1st, with plans for public hearings later in that month. Thompson also stated that the committee aims to publish an interim report in June on its findings.
Thompson said that the panel interviewed more than 500 witnesses. Thompson said that the most recent interview was Thursday with Judd Deere , former White House press secretary. He was subpoenaed back in January. Deere spoke for approximately six hours with the committee.
A source familiarized with the subpoena told NBC News previously that Trump’s activities prior to and during the attack on Capitol Hill were being sought by the panel.
The legal brief was filed Wednesday in federal court. It stated that it has “a good-faith basis” to conclude that Trump and “members his Campaign engaged in an criminal conspiracy in order to defraud America.”
Trump has not been accused of any crime. Although the Jan. 6 Committee can refer cases to prosecution, those referrals don’t have any binding effect.
Trump stated Thursday that the Democrats were behind the election rigging and that the Fake News Media, Unselect Committee and Fake News Media covered it all.
