Paddington Bear, dressed in his blue duffle coat and seated down with Queen Elizabeth II at Buckingham Palace to enjoy tea as part of the Platinum Jubilee celebrations celebrating her 70-years on the throne.
It was an unforgettable meeting, and the two realized they had something in common. The polite bear offered the queen a marmalade sandwich. He tucked it deep into his red brimmed cap.
He tells her, “I always have one for emergencies,”
She unlatches a black bag and pulls out a sandwich.
“So do I,” she says. “I keep mine here.”
Paddington gasps, and his eyes widen.
The queen declares, “For later.”
To open a concert celebrating the queen, the Queen’s meeting with Paddington in Buckingham Palace was shown to thousands. According to The Associated Press, the short video was received with applause and laughter by the crowd.
The sketch was only one aspect of the multi-day celebration. The festivities included a queen’s birthday parade, musical performances, and appearances by Prince Charles and Prince William.
The queen, who is now 96, was unable to attend the event in person. According to the AP, the palace cited “episodic movement issues”.
