Jack Del Rio was the Washington Commanders’ defensive coordinator. He later regretted referring to the insurrection at the Capitol as a “dust up.”

Del Rio, after an offseason practice Wednesday night, compared Black Lives Matter protests with the attack on Capitol.

“I see the images in TV. Del Rio stated that people’s livelihoods were being destroyed and that businesses were being set on fire aEUR” no problem.” “And then, we have a dust up at the Capitol. Nothing was burned down… and that’s going to be a major deal.”

Wednesday afternoon, Del Rio apologized for calling the attack against the Capitol a “dust up.”

“Referring to that situation as an uproar was negligent and irresponsible. I am sorry. The statement states that I stand by my condemnations of violence in communities throughout the country. “I do so while supporting peaceful protest in America as an American citizen.”

In the statement, Del Rio said that he respected the opinions of players, coaches and staff.

Del Rio made the comparison earlier this week to Black Lives Matter protests by replying to a tweet regarding a guide for Jan. 6 hearings. These will begin Thursday night.

“Would love the whole story” about the reasons the summer of riots and looting, burning, and destruction of personal property was never discussed, but this is it. “?,” Del Rio tweeted.

Social media users spread the video of the news conference widely. Some users suggested that Del Rio should be fired, while others supported him.

Derrick Johnson, President of NAACP, stated that Del Rio should resign or be fired.

Johnson stated that downplaying the insurrection and comparing it with nationwide protests which were in response a public execution was a distortion. Johnson wrote, “You cannot coach a majority Black team and turn your back on the Black community. You need to get off the field.

Jonathan Allen, Commanders defensive tackle, and team captain, said to NBC4 Sports Washington that he doesn’t care what Del Rio thinks.

I don’t care what his opinion is. Allen stated that he doesn’t care about his opinion as long as he shows-up every day and works hard, so that’s what he wants from me as my defensive coordinator.”
