Officials said that a helicopter crashed into a lava field in Hawaii Wednesday. All six passengers survived the crash, however, two of them were in critical condition.
Cyrus Johnasen, spokesperson for Hawaii County, stated that it was a tour helicopter and had a pilot and five passengers.
Pilot, a man in his 50s who was trapped, was eventually freed and was now in stable but serious condition. A woman aged 18 was found in a serious and worsening state. Four individuals were reported to be ambulatory.
Johnasen stated that the initial report was received at 5:05 p.m., stating that the aircraft had crashed close to the southernmost tip on the Big Island. Because the site was not accessible by vehicles, the Hawaii Fire Department dispatched two helicopters to transport victims to nearby ambulances.
K&S Helicopters, the helicopter’s operator, described the downed helicopter as a Bell 407 Bell 407. According to a company statement, the crash took place in the Kau area.
According to the statement, “K&S Helicopters will cooperate with all authorities and is also working towards helping those affected.” Our highest priority is to take care of our passengers, crew and their families.
