Woody Allen, Oscar-winning filmmaker, sat down with Alec Baldwin for an interview on Tuesday on Instagram Live. He spoke about his artistic achievements without discussing the allegations of sexual abuse that have plagued him for decades.
Allen, 86, spoke from his New York home to discuss his nonfiction writing, memoir, abandoned plans for a novel, Broadway theater’s state, and his disinterest with social media platforms like Instagram. Baldwin called it the “Radio City Music Hall” of the millennial generation.
Director, who is in promotion of a book, stated that he may make “at least one additional movie”, but that “a lot” of the thrill has gone.
“When I used do films, they would go into movie houses all over the country. You can now make a movie, and it will take you a few weeks to get into a movie house. Allen stated that it could take six to four weeks before the movie is available for streaming or pay per view. “It’s different… It’s less enjoyable to me.”
It attracted approximately 2,600 viewers and was sometimes interrupted by technical glitches. Allen’s video connection was lost three times and Baldwin once shouted at someone on-screen in Spanish.
Baldwin, 64, has appeared in three films by the director, “Alice” (1990),”To Rome with Love (2012), and “Blue Jasmine (2013). He did not speak about the shooting that took place on the set for his Western film, “Rust”.
In a Sunday Instagram video, the actor announced the interview. He wrote: “Let’s preface this by saying that I have zero interest in any judgments or sanctimonious postings here.
The actor stated, “I am obviously someone who holds my own beliefs and could not care less about any other’s speculation.” “If you think that a trial should take place via an HBO documentary, then that’s your problem.”
He was referring “Allen v. Farrow”, a documentary series of four parts that aired on HBO beginning in 2021. Co-directed by Amy Ziering, Kirby Dick and Dylan Farrow, the series explored Allen’s relationship to actor Mia Farrow, and also examined Dylan Farrow’s sexual assault allegations against him.
Dylan Farrow, then seven years old, has claimed that Allen abused her in an attic in 1992. In a 2014 open letter, published in The New York Times in Part, she first discussed the allegation. She wrote: “Woody Allen has been a living testimony to how society fails survivors of sexual assault and abuse.”
Allen has denied the allegations and has not been charged with any crime. Dylan claimed that Mia Farrow encouraged Dylan’s alleged plot because she was unhappy about Allen’s affair, which he had with Soon-Yi Previn (now the filmmaker’s spouse).
Baldwin spent the last months caught up in the aftermath to the shooting fatality on the Western film “Rust”. He was rehearsing scenes when the prop gun he was holding went off. This killed Halyna Hutchins, and wounded Joel Souza.
Investigations into the shooting are ongoing. Hutchins’ loved ones filed a wrongful-death lawsuit against Baldwin and the “Rust” production crew in February. They claim that Baldwin and Rust were negligent and took cost-cutting steps to cause her death.
Baldwin stated that he didn’t feel guilty about the fatal shooting and told ABC News that he felt that someone was responsible. But I know that it isn’t me.”
Allen has been defended before by the actor. Baldwin wrote: “The renunciation [of him] and his work, no question, has some purpose. It’s unfair and disappointing to me. It was a privilege to have worked with WA three times.
