After the Supreme Court overturned the landmark Roe V. Wade decision, the Chainsmokers song “Paris”, released in 2017, became a rallying cry on TikTok for abortion rights.
Many TikTok users began to lip-sync the Chainsmokers’ lyric “If you go down, then together we go down.” To show solidarity with others in states that ban or make it difficult for abortion, they started TikTok. As of Wednesday morning, the song was used in over 135,000 TikTok videos.
TikTok user morguelol wrote in her Sunday video that “when the powers or systems fail us, it is up to us to have each other.” “Sobbing at every video under this sound.”
Moschultemusic, another TikTok creator said, “Do you think that The Chainsmokers knew that their little song about Paris would be used for fighting for reproductive rights?”
The Chainsmokers responded to the trend by tweeting that their song was being used, saying it was “special” to see how “Paris”, is being used on social networks.
The “Closer” duo of Drew Taggart, Alex Pall and Alex Pall added, “Beautiful that our music playing a part in bringing people together.” “And any artist, creator or producer right now that doesn’t speak up for the women who support them in their careers should feel ashamed.”
The group did not respond immediately to a request for comment.
Taggart continues to show his support.
He wrote, “We didn’t see that coming, but we are glad that something that we wrote is being used for support a cause that we believe in,” in a TikTok reply video.
