Swedish police investigate the murder of a 60-year-old woman after she was accosted with a knife in broad daylight on the island of Gotland. The event occurred this Wednesday and coincides with the celebration of a political congress, the Almedalen Week, which brings together the main politicians of the country for a week before the national elections and attracts thousands of people.

According to police sources, a 33-year-old man was arrested after the incident and is under suspicion of murder after stabbing a woman to death very close to a political event where there was a large concentration of the public, in the center of Visby.

Gotland Police told a news conference there was no indication of any further threats over Almedalen Week and declined to comment on the suspect’s motives or political affiliations. Although the Swedish media outlet Aftonbladet published, citing sources, that the man had ties to a neo-Nazi organization.
