Given the anticipation of the announcement by the president of the Generalitat, Pere Aragonès, to approve a package of measures endowed with 300 million euros to combat the effects of high inflation, the main opposition party in Catalonia considers that the announcement is late and It is insufficient.

This has been pointed out by the spokeswoman for the PSC-Units parliamentary group, Alícia Romero, in statements to the media from the Parlament hours before the general policy debate begins in the Catalan Chamber. “From the outset it seems insufficient to us considering that the Government had not presented any shock plan in the face of the consequences derived from the war in Ukraine. So far there have been no proposals; now, 300 million… We will be attentive”, declared Romero.

For the spokeswoman, she has set the amount that the Government plans to approve to reduce the impact of inflation on families, companies, the most vulnerable households, the primary sector and young people, remembering that it represents only 10% of the increase in spending that will have the budgets of the Generalitat for next year. Thus, currently this budget is 34,000 million, and in 2023 there will be 3,000 million more to spend.

“If the approach they make is only 10%, well, from the outset it seems insufficient to us taking into account the needs of families and companies,” Romero insisted.

The Socialists critically face a debate “marked by the disagreements of the Government, between Junts and ERC”, which are causing “we have a government in paralysis and that is not facing the problems that the people have”, lamented the Socialist spokesperson .

Faced with this paralysis, Romero believes that the alternative role of his formation is “taking on more strength”, whose strategy is based on a “critical opposition but with an outstretched hand”. According to the socialist deputy, the leader of his party, Salvador Illa, will expose in the debate a position “critical with what is not done or not done well, but also with an outstretched hand to make Catalonia move forward”.

However, Romero wanted to show the high degree of paralysis of the Aragonès Executive by putting as a “flagrant example” the absence of a “fund to fight energy poverty”, which was approved in a resolution proposal in the general policy debate last year and has not yet been launched.

As for the “broad” proposal for self-determination that the president intends to raise in his speech, the Socialists regret not having prior knowledge. In any case, the deputy has warned that “if it goes in line with the latest, our position will not change much, although we will be respectful of all the proposals it makes.”
